How Are You Feeling?
A powerful agent is the right word, whenever we come upon one of those intensely right words, the resulting effect is physical as well as spiritual and electrically prompt.
Mark Twain
Whether directed to oneself or to others the "How are you feeling?" question can only be answered with words, such as fine, okay, depressed, angry, annoyed, hurt etc. What word we decide to use either decrease or increase the intensity of our feelings/emotions.
The same way a "calm down" can steady an angry person by lessening the intensity of their anger, using a different and less striking word can do same.
For example, I feel happy and I feel golden means same thing but using the word "Golden" heightens the intensity of that feeling and you just want to stay fixed in that state.
It's same with saying I feel low/down and I feel depressed, certainly the word "Depressed" is a bigger deal than low/down. The major problem with using emotion heightening words for bad state is 'It shuts avenue for solutions' or make solution seem impossible.
In other light, using emotion lessening word for great state can decrease your vibe. Let's say you are chatting with a friend and you use the word spectacular/hunky dory instead of okay. It makes the conversation more interesting.
These are some words we use often that needs more or less intensity and the words we can use instead.
Happy: Golden
Sad: Bittersweet, melancholy
Depressed: Down, low
Unhappy: Lovesick
Angry: Peeved
Pain: Bother
Insecure: Overanxious, unassured
Devastating: Overwhelming
Humiliating: Humbling, chagrin
Heartache: Brokenhearted
Perky: Cheerfulness
Frustrated, defeated: Thwarted, cranky
Frightened: Panic-striken
Sire: Make children
Funny: Laughable
Emotional: Passionate
Bored: Tired
Annoyed : Peckish
Okay: Hunky dory, spectacular, dramatic
Problem: Trouble
Stress: Tenseness
Difficult, hard: Cumbersome
Disappointment: Let down
I once told someone I love I was insecure, I wish I used unassured instead because it ended in tears...LOL. "Don't shut yourself with the words you use to describe your feelings".
So the next time you are asked the "How are you feeling" question, use emotion lessening word for the bad state and emotion heightening word for the great state.
Thank you for reading. XOXO
